Music Returns to Canterbury Park this Summer with Concerts Featuring National Artists

Shakopee, Minn. — Canterbury Park today announced four of several outdoor concerts featuring national artists to be held throughout the summer in its open air grandstand. The concert area offers excellent sight lines in an intimate setting with stellar acoustics, placing music lovers close to the artists. The Canterbury grandstand concert bowl, which can comfortably accommodate 2,500, is a unique setting ‘South of the River’ in Shakopee, Minn., a Minneapolis/St. Paul suburb.
The four dates, all Fridays, include Night Ranger on June 2, Killer Queen July 21, Smash Mouth and Spin Doctors August 11 and Randy Houser Sept. 8. Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Canterbury, long known for outdoor festival-style music events, began featuring live music in its grandstand in 2021 offering a variety of niche genres. Drawing on the experience gained over the past two summers, entertainment director Deb Schaber homed in on what had been most successful when assembling this summer’s line up. “Rock and country performers attracted tremendous crowds,” she said. “We found our wheelhouse and that will be our focus this year, offering popular national rock and country artists in a really special setting adjacent to the horse track that is Canterbury’s roots.”
Tickets for the performances go on sale to the general public on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. exclusively online at tickets.canterburypark.com. A variety of seating options are available ranging from VIP Deck tables with food and beverage service, reserved stadium seating and a Kwik Trip Pit Pass allowing access in front of the stage. Parking is free, nearby the grandstand. Canterbury’s 24/7 Casino is easily accessible from the concert area.
“Live music fits so well in Shakopee and at Canterbury Park which have for decades been an entertainment destination for the region,” Schaber said. “The available options continue to expand.” Groundbreaking on a 19,000-capacity amphitheater located on property to the north of Canterbury is expected this spring while a new brewery and restaurant to the south will open in June, all part of Canterbury Commons, a multi-use entertainment district surrounding the racetrack.
